Toma Staff Form
Angle: Main
Kobudo
About this kata
Toma Bo is a traditional Okinawan kobudo (古武道, "ancient martial way") form performed with the bo (六尺棒, rokushakubo — six-foot staff), one of the oldest and most fundamental weapons in the Okinawan martial arts canon.
The bo is the foundation weapon of Okinawan kobudo, and bo kata preserve the combative principles of peasant and farmer communities whose primary agricultural tools doubled as defensive implements. Toma Bo is associated with the Toma (当間) lineage — a Tomari-te tradition originating in the village of Tomari — and carries the direct, powerful striking patterns characteristic of that school.
